A
map of walkways [in orange] seen outside the Acropolis, joining
most of the city's key sites.
Number 1: Syntagma Square, a metro station, the Parliament building and guards in pom-pom clogs. Number 2: the Olympeion, though not much is left barring a dozen massive Corinthian columns and the Arch of Hadrian. Number 3: the Acropolis, including the Theatre of Dionysos and the Parthenon. Number 4: Filopappos Hill, a calm green walk, some good views, the Dora Stratou Theatre and a pleasant café. Number 5: Thision metro stop and access to fashionable, non-touristy Psiri district [11] and Keramikos cemetary [6]. Number 6: lovely, tranquil, Keramikos cemetary. Number 7: the Ancient Agora [market place], including the Agora Museum inside the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos, and the Temple of Hephaestus. Number 8: Monastiraki metro stop, Athens Flea Market, the Ceramic Museum and shopping galore. Number 9: the Roman Agora, and up the hill expensive dining and cute little Anafiotika village. Number 10: Plaka sweet Plaka, homebase for a million Athens travellers. Number 11: Psiri, the best area for eating and drinking alongside affluent young locals, as opposed to neighbouring Plaka's tourist herds.
